Lawrence S. Burstein, Ph.D.
Vice President of Operations, Disability

Dr. Burstein provides operational oversight of our Disability Review Program. He is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and is Board Certified by the American Board of Disability Analysts. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Science degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova University in Florida. Dr. Burstein has worked with therapy clients, in various capacities, since 1983 and remains in active clinical practice. He has also been involved in managed care and utilization review throughout his career as a psychologist. Dr. Burstein began working in the area of Disability in 1995. He was invited to join the Peer Review panel at Kemper National Services as they were beginning to manage disability claims. His primary duty was to review claims, but he also helped KNS develop tools and systems to obtain examination findings which would more accurately speak to a claimant’s functioning than the opinion based forms than in use. He also helped to train case managers on managing mental health claims.  He continued in these roles when KNS was purchased by the firm that would later form Broadspire. Dr. Burstein was the first Peer Reviewer hired by Aetna when they formed a Peer Review panel. He brings to Dane Street a wealth of experience as we expand our disability business. He resides in Florida and works in Dane Street’s Boston and Palm Beach Gardens offices.
