Leo Lombardo, M.D.
National Medical Director
Dr. Leo Lombardo is a physician in active practice and board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He holds B.A. and B.S. degrees from Stanford University and received his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. While attending medical school, Dr. Lombardo was awarded the School of Medicine Dean’s Scholarship, the Pharmacology Education and Research Foundation Award and was a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. In addition to completing his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Anesthesiology, he pursued fellowship training in Pain Medicine. Dr. Lombardo specializes in interventional pain management and multidisciplinary approaches to chronic pain. He maintains clear and active licenses in the states of California, Texas and Colorado. He is experienced in Disability, Worker’s Compensation, Automotive cases and Group Health. In addition, he is Colorado Worker’s Compensation (Level 1) accredited. He is also bilingual (English and Japanese).
Lawrence S. Burstein, Ph.D.
Director, Clinical Operations – Disability
Dr. Burstein provides operational oversight of our Disability Review Program. He is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and is Board Certified by the American Board of Disability Analysts. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Master of Science degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova University in Florida. Dr. Burstein has worked with therapy clients, in various capacities, since 1983 and remains in active clinical practice. He has also been involved in managed care and utilization review throughout his career as a psychologist. Dr. Burstein began working in the area of Disability in 1995. He was invited to join the Peer Review panel at Kemper National Services as they were beginning to manage disability claims. His primary duty was to review claims, but he also helped KNS develop tools and systems to obtain examination findings which would more accurately speak to a claimant’s functioning than the opinion based forms than in use. He also helped to train case managers on managing mental health claims. He continued in these roles when KNS was purchased by the firm that would later form Broadspire. Dr. Burstein was the first Peer Reviewer hired by Aetna when they formed a Peer Review panel. He brings to Dane Street a wealth of experience as we expand our disability business. He resides in Florida and works in Dane Street’s Boston and Palm Beach Gardens offices.
Christian Whitney, D.O.
Associate Medical Director – Pharmacy
Dr. Whitney is board-certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He received his Bachelor of Arts of degree in Chemistry from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He was a fellow at the Department of Anesthesiology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Dr. Whitney has several publications and media appearances on the subjects of anesthesia and pain medicine. He has also received several honors including the Drew Recognition Award and the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar Award. He resides in Connecticut.
